How Much Can I Save with the Climate Saver Card?

Q&A
The goal of the Climate Saver Card is simple: save you more than you spend and help clean up the atmosphere at the same time.
If you're curious about how we clean up the atmosphere, we've written plenty on that. You can read this explainer, dive into our methods, or check out how we deployed the Climate Pot in Season 2.
But today, we’re focusing on the other half of the story - how the savings work.
Where Do the Savings Come From?
We’ve partnered with climate-conscious brands like Bloom & Wild, Who Gives A Crap, Sutsu and many more. These brands often offer discounts to their communities as part of their normal marketing. We ask them to go further and create exclusive offers for Glad members.
So what’s in it for them?
They get to reach people who actually care about climate.
They become part of a tangible climate solution which is great for their brand story.
It doesn’t cost them anything upfront. The only cost is the discount itself, so it’s a smart, sustainable way to gain and retain new customers.
Choosing the Right Partners
As we’ve started bringing the first cohort of brands into Glad, we realised it was important to evaluate each one carefully and to involve our community in the process.
That’s why we created our Brand Evaluation Framework. Every brand and offer is reviewed to make sure it aligns with our mission and values and then put to a vote in the community. Only those that don't raise any red flags and receive a majority yes vote are added to the site.
Understanding the Savings
How much you save depends on how often you use the card and what kinds of products you’re buying. To bring this to life, we’ve created three fictional members of Glad each using Glad in a slightly different way, meet: Carlos Carbon, Nina Nitrous, and Sally Sulfur.
Let’s dive in.
Brace yourself - there’s maths ahead! :)
Carlos Carbon
A practical saver who uses Glad for essentials.
Carlos uses three savings to cut down on his everyday bills, from his mobile plan, to his travel insurance and his monthly coffee fix.
Item | Saving |
---|---|
Mobile Phone £25 Monthly Contract | 15% off Saving £3.75 a month |
Travel Insurance Paying £70 for an annual policy | 20% off the full premium Saving £14 per year or £1.15 a month |
Coffee Subscription £20 per month | 20% off monthly subscription Saving £4.00 a month |
Monthly Saving | £8.90 |
Membership Fee | £5 a month |
NET MONTHLY SAVING | £3.90 a month |
Nina Nitrous
A savvy shopper whose employer covers her membership.
Nina’s employer signed up the whole team for Glad as part of its climate commitment. The company gets the impact benefit for its ESG reporting and employees get access to savings.
Nina had been eyeing a tech gadget for months. When she saw the saving through Glad, she finally made the leap.
Item | Saving |
---|---|
Tech Gadget £349 | 20% off A one off saving of £69.80 |
Monthly Saving If you spread that saving over 12 months | £5.82 |
Membership Fee | nil - her employer is covering the bill |
NET MONTHLY SAVING | £5.82 a month |
She gets the product she wanted, saves money and feels proud her employer’s backing real climate action.
Sally Sulfur
A thoughtful gifter who uses Glad to treat the people she loves.
Sally joined Glad to make her money go further on thoughtful gifts. She uses her membership to brighten other people’s days - while helping clean up the atmosphere at the same time.
Item | Saving |
---|---|
Monthly Flowers Treat £29 | 20% off Saving £5.80 |
Gift One item bought every 2 months using a budget of £50 | 20% off Saving £10 a time or £5 a month |
Monthly Saving | £10.80 |
Membership Fee | £5 a month |
NET MONTHLY SAVING | £5.80 a month |
Sally gets to treat her friends and family, just as she'd chosen to do anyway, contribute to climate cleanup via her Glad membership and still come out ahead every month.
What’s Next?
As we bring in more categories like groceries, broadband, travel and entertainment, we expect the savings and the climate impact to grow significantly.
If you're already a member, we’d love to hear how you’re using your card. And if you're not yet on board, now might be a good time to start saving and cleaning up the atmosphere at the same time.
